a mission trip. Not the ones like our youth choir takes where they sleep in hotels and ride airplanes to go somewhere they could just as easily drive. I mean a church bus packed out, sleeping on the floor of a gym, may or may not have showered lately mission trip. The kind of mission trip where you get to keep life in perspective. Where you see how fortunate you are and where you can love on people just by playing kick-ball with them.
I mean the kind of trip that has you out at the crack of dawn painting a house or cleaning out hurricane devastated refrigerators (which, by the way, is dis-gust-ing. Blegh).
We've got it all wrong. God is love. and love is action. Love is not loud (or soft) music. Love is not shiny new publications advertising our "ministry". It's not new screens or new projectors or a new "brand" to get people to come to US. Like the church is some big magnet. . .well, it's a magnet alright, but that's another blog for another day.
What happened to getting out and doing? Get your hands dirty and get out. Be a friend, a real friend to someone. Actions convey a message much more powerfully than a tract or a T-shirt. People want to know that you ARE different. We don't get out and go because we haven't let ourselves become different. . .
